Country:Charliville and Carnarvon.

Veronica is the grand daughter of Doreen Fraser nee Lawton. Her Indigenous heritage and old ways were instilled to her at an early age.

Jimmy Lawton, her great grandfather was born in 1880 and lived to be 111, when he died on 27th September, 1991.

Like the “Murri”, he used Gumbi Gumbi, an Aboriginal bush medicine, all his life and believed it prolonged his well being.

The ”Murri” is a term often used by Queensland Aboriginal people to describe themselves and is increasingly making its way into mainstream language.

Scientific evidence has proved it to cure the common cold and help with Ross River fever. It is aslo known to shrink cancer cells by putting a protection around the red blood cells, ideal for people undergoing chemo.

There are 7 different varieties of Gumbi Gumbi and most are highly toxic, so it needs to be boiled for some hours to release the toxins before digesting.
