No Fear at Cystal Cascades

In this work the painting depicts the tracks and surroundings of Crystal Cascades in Cairns. The combination of arches depict the swimming holes and in particular the place known as “No Fear”, high up on the cliff face, a popular jumping platform for the extreme enthusiasts. Below the arches is the ledge that one gains access to “No Fear”. Water Falls cascade above and below, hiding the potential danger. Surrounded by walking tracks and creeks, it is an idyllic spot for the locals to swim and picnic and a place to reflect ones childhood. The Kuranda Railway Track is depicted on the top right and the Barron Falls Dam Wall is shown on the other side. Freshwater Creek is depicted below the railway line.

The colours reflect passion, body and spirit and a mixing of all cultures.

In this work the painting depicts the tablelands of Cairns up at Lake Tinnaroo, at a celebration of dance and music.

A gathering of the traditional mobs surround the lake or it could well be a scouts’ jamboree or school excursion, camping on the shores of Lake Tinnaroo.

The colours are derived from the “jam and berries” at the local markets at Kairi on a Sunday morning, hence the title play on words of “Jamboree”. The striped coloring is the central stage and performers and the pink back drop behind the stage depicts the passion and joy of those present.

In this work the painting depicts the view from the artist’s own balcony, overlooking Blue Water Canals in Trinity Park, in Cairns. Using the colours and texture design of his “Mexican” hammock strung from his balcony, he paints this aerial view, as if transcending from above.  The changing colours of the water, as the tides come in and out of the canals.

The artwork depicts a prestigious development, having been converted from a marshy mangrove to an exclusive residential area of quays and canals, abundant with fish life and lined with architecturally designed homes, a marina and pontoons to moor the many crafts and of vessels awaiting to exit Yorkeys Knob on the high tide, out to The Great Barrier Reef and sand cays.

The circles and domes also depict campsites and meeting places of the local mobs before the area was developed. The tributaries and banks are still a favorite fishing spot for the locals.
